Develop your skills with our RYA Personal Watercraft Proficiency
The RYA PWC is our most enjoyable course. Clients include those that are new to personal watercraft, existing PWC owners and students who would like to charter (hire) a PWC either in the UK or abroad. At Harbourside Sea School we include a free ICC assessment (International Certificate of Competence) which is the license required for European waters, and guidance on applying for this.
Is the RYA Personal Watercraft Proficiency right for me?
The PWC course is designed to give students an understanding of personal watercraft under the guidance of a highly experienced and qualified RYA PWC instructor. This one day course focuses on developing your handling, safety and navigation skills. It is the perfect training course for complete beginners that will prepare you to take out a PWC by yourself. However, it is also suitable for seasoned PWC riders looking to consolidate their experience with the principles of the RYA scheme.
Previous experience?
No this course is suitable for all students over the age of 12 years old.
Students under 16 will have their certificates endorsed as follows: “To be under the supervision of a responsible adult”.
What will I learn?
The RYA PWC course will teach you about all aspects of handling, including: anchoring, securing to a mooring buoy, turning in confined spaces, coming alongside, man overboard techniques, knowledge of equipment, towing, high speed manoeuvres, rules of the road and pilotage and passage planning.
Course Itinerary
Your PWC training will begin with a full safety brief and introduction to the PWC ,You will then have time to familiarise yourself with the boat’s controls and the river environment before we start practising different manoeuvres.
This will all be done within the River Mersey, making it as real life as possible for when you decide to start PWC riding solo. You will stop for lunch to cement your new found skills before we take back to the water for more slow speed manoeuvres.
